Embrace Mistakes

The Best Offense is a Good Defense
Defense comes first. It's important to protect all of your pieces.
If you notice any pieces that aren't defended, figure out which ones they are, understand why they're vulnerable, and have a good reason for leaving them that way. Pawns might seem less important, but they're actually great at defending because they can control important squares and support other pieces.
Keep an eye out for any weak spots on the board, like squares where your opponent's pieces could sneak in to attack you. Also, watch out for squares they might use to improve their position and move their pieces more effectively.
King Safety
At the beginning of the game, focus on getting your knights, bishops, and rooks into action, and make sure to castle early to protect your king. This becomes super important, especially when the center of the board starts to open up, usually signaled by exchanging pawns in the middle.
King safety is a fundamental concept in chess that you should prioritize. The king is the most important piece on the board, and its capture means the end of the game. Therefore, ensuring your king is safe is crucial. Castling not only protects the king from direct attacks but also allows for better coordination of your pieces. Keeping the king safe allows you to focus on your strategy and offense without constantly worrying about imminent threats to your most vital piece.
